Machining

Machining is the whole of manufacturing processes using machine tools that work by removing chips from a workpiece to shape the material into an intended design. Most metal components and parts require some form of machining during the manufacturing process. Other materials, such as plastics, rubbers, and paper products, can also be produced by common machining processes.

In modern product development, machining is usually done using a CNC machine. Machined parts can be used for any part of industry or our daily life. Machining is most commonly used to produce metal materials, parts, and tools. Metals that can be machined are stainless steel, aluminum, brass, titanium and copper.

Generally, there are three different machining methods. These are: Milling, Turning and Grinding methods. Turning is a machining operation performed by a lathe. Lathe; It rotates the workpiece as it moves over the cutting tools. Cutting tools operate along two axes of motion to create cuts of precise depth and width. Milling; It uses rotating cutting tools to remove material, unlike turning operations where the tool does not rotate. Drilling creates cylindrical holes in solid materials using drill bits; It is one of the most important machining processes as the holes created are generally intended to aid assembly. A drill press is usually used, but bits can also be installed on lathes or milling machines.
